Reviews
While we visited Saratoga we were seeking a New York style craft cocktail and dining experience. We loved the variety of menu options that covered vegan through surf and turf. The oysters were magnificent and the cocktails were comparable to Manhattan's Ritz-Carlton but priced reasonably. Loved it so much we recommended it to fellow travelers who asked for a recommendation. We will make sure to stop by again when we are in town! I may even call in advance to make sure i have my beloved gin-gin fizz waiting 😉
We had an excellent time at Hamlet & Ghost last night. We were pleased to get a last minute table on a busy evening in Saratoga. Parking can be a bit rough, but there were several free spots in the city parking lots nearby for people with disabilities.
We had the Gin Gin Fizz and Tokyo Cheese Factory, which were both excellent. The Tokyo Cheese Factory was one of the most exceptional drinks I’ve ever tried — it’s truly unique and the flavors are perfectly balanced. Definitely give it a chance if you’re looking for something different.
We also had the oysters with cucumber mignonette, bread with cinnamon espresso butter, beets and chèvre, and fondue. Everything was fantastic, arrived quickly, and the service was incredible. I’d highly recommend Hamlet & Ghost to anyone looking for a fun night out and delicious food in Saratoga.
All 5/5! The food was some of the freshest and best tasting that I’ve had in a long time! We enjoyed the strawberry salad and the cheese curds! The cheese curds really do live up to the hype! We also tried the steak with mole as our entree, which was proverbially “to die for”. The mole was amazing, as our waiter pointed out, you could “drink it”. For dessert, we had the rye brownie sundae, which was so fudgey and rich and the miso caramel really hit the spot. Also, the cocktail was the best I’ve had in a long while, the gin gin fizz really lived up to the hype as well! What an amazing experience!!
Came here for our first meal over a long weekend getaway. Everything was wonderful - Had the oysters, spicy crab toast, the turnips (that spicy sauce was a delight) and pea barley risotto (so not heavy like risotto can be) - all to share. Started with a vodka martini that was to DIE for.
By far the star of Saratoga.
While any dish is excellent, I find I most enjoy a table full of small plates and shareables. Every plate comes beautifully presented and expertly finished. It's rare to say I've never had a bad experience somewhere, but truthfully, H&G is one place I standby that.
With a seasonally rotating food & drink menu, the cocktails are equally delicious. Once you've visited H&G you WILL go back for more.
A culinary breath of fresh air in a city suffocating and trapped in a gastronomic echo-chamber.
My history as a patron goes back to 2017. Heres a list of the meals ive eaten at Hamlet & Ghost:
Shishito Peppers with a chorizo rouille, cilantro, lime, and black salt.
Roasted 898 Squash, Crispy Barley, Sunflower Seed Macha, and a Mole Almendrado.
Shrimp & Grits, with Crème fraiche, tasso ham, and Jalapeño Bechamel.
Seared Scallops, with celery root puree, cayenne pepper, bacon rillions, and shallot petals.
Cider Battered in warm pepper jelly.
Shio Koji Cured Pork Belly with smoked celeriac puree, maple glaze, and granny Smith apple.
Poutine with au poivre sauce, smoked cheddar, local curds.
The list goes on, but the quality is real. The cooks work in a kitchen open in full view of thier customers. But its easy to be cynical when you hear Hamlet & Ghost is a "scratch kitchen."
It's all true. Each of the menu's 17 dishes average 5-7 different components, each with its own separate recipe. And like the French bistros that proudly store thier cheese on hot shelf for hour in full view, the true spirit of Hamlet & Ghost is fermenting ingredients in front of thier customers. Sanitized jars sit on a shelf at the chef's table, where you can see multiple fermentation techniques; Koji, Lacto, garum, etc. The restaurants goal is to offer high end food, in a casual less intimidating settle, at a reasonable price.
They are the very definition of authentic in every context. Authentic, in advanced using culinary techniques to offer high end food, but at a reasonable price. The cooks use precision to push the saving onto the customer.
I recommend Hamlet & Ghost if you love food, and want to gently expand your flavor palette.
One of the few restaurants in Saratoga Springs that's not trying to put thier hand in your pocket and charge a fortune for low quality meals.
So many restaurants “talk the talk” and charge the price, but they don’t “walk the walk.” Hamlet & Ghost delivers! The food is elegant in presentation and flavorful, without being overly seasoned! As an appetizer we had the Spicy Crab Toast. My husband had the Risotto with English and Snap Peas. I had the Manfredine Pasta with Cherry Tomatoes. For dessert we had the Lemon Posset. Every thing was perfect. Nothing more to say! Thank you for the lovely meal! Also, the service was outstanding! This may sound like a “glowing” review. It is. So rare to have such perfection!
Hamlet & Ghost is such a great experience. Friendly staff with a casual vibe but food that is way beyond!
The burger is one of the very best burgers I've ever had. The cheese curds are …
